1. Acceptance of Terms
Welcome to ExifClean.com ("Service", "we", "us", or "our"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of our website and services operated by ExifClean ("Company", "we", "us", or "our").
By accessing or using our Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of these terms, then you may not access the Service.
2. Description of Service
ExifClean.com provides a free online tool that allows users to:
- Remove EXIF metadata from digital images
- View and analyze image metadata
- Protect privacy by stripping location data and personal information from photos
- Process images entirely in the browser without server upload
Our service is designed to help users protect their privacy when sharing digital images online.
3. User Responsibilities and Acceptable Use
3.1 Permitted Use
You may use our Service for lawful purposes only. You agree to use the Service in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
3.2 Prohibited Activities
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
- Upload content that infringes on intellectual property rights
- Upload malicious files, viruses, or harmful code
- Attempt to reverse engineer or hack our systems
- Use automated tools to access the Service without permission
- Upload content containing child exploitation material
- Violate any applicable local, state, national, or international law
3.3 Content Responsibility
You are solely responsible for the images you process. For a standard upload or drag-and-drop, this is largely academic — the file is read in your browser and never reaches our servers, so we have no practical ability to review, host, or act on it. The one place this clause has real teeth is the "load from URL" feature: that path does route through tempfile.org (see our Privacy Policy, Section 2.2), so don't use it to fetch content you don't have the rights to.
4. Privacy and Data Processing
Image processing happens entirely in your browser and is not uploaded to our servers during normal operation. We do rely on a handful of third-party services described in detail — and scoped to exactly which pages they run on — in Section 7 below and in our Privacy Policy, which is the authoritative source for how data is actually handled. If the two documents ever appear to disagree, the Privacy Policy governs.
5. Intellectual Property Rights
5.1 Our Rights
The Service and its original content, features, and functionality are and will remain the exclusive property of ExifClean and its licensors. The Service is protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws.
5.2 Your Rights
You retain all rights to the images and content you upload. By using our Service, you do not grant us any rights to your content beyond what is necessary to provide the Service.
6. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
6.1 Service Availability
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
6.2 Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, ExifClean shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues.
6.3 Data Loss
In practice, there's very little to lose: the tool reads your image into memory, and "stripping" produces a new file for you to download — your original file on your device is never modified, overwritten, or deleted by us, because we never had write access to it in the first place. The realistic risk is closer to "your browser tab crashed before you clicked download," not data loss on our end.
7. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on the following third parties. Full detail on what data each one sees and when is in our Privacy Policy — this section exists to disclose that we use them, not to duplicate that explanation.
- Google Analytics: traffic and usage analytics, running on every page.
- Google AdSense: advertising, running only on the EXIF Remover, Metadata Viewer, and Privacy Checker tool pages — not on this page or our other support pages.
- Google Maps: embedded only on the Remover and Privacy Checker, and only when an image actually contains GPS data.
- tempfile.org: used only if you use the "load from URL" field, to work around a browser security restriction (CORS) — not used for standard uploads.
- Cloudflare: our CDN, used for caching and delivery performance.
Each of these operates under its own terms and privacy policy, which we don't control.
8. Advertising and Monetization
To help cover hosting costs, we display advertisements through Google AdSense on the EXIF Remover, Metadata Viewer, and Privacy Checker tool pages only — not on Help, FAQ, Contact, this page, or our error page. These advertisements:
- Are clearly distinguished from our content
- May be targeted based on your browsing activity, per Google's own ad system
- Are subject to Google's advertising policies
- Do not reflect our endorsement of advertised products or services
9. Termination
We may terminate or suspend your access to the Service immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including if you breach these Terms.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service will cease immediately.
10. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify users by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Our servers and Cloudflare, our CDN, both operate primarily out of the US as well.
